061112: “Thank you” these few words is what I’d like to say, even though they are simple. To everyone who likes me, loves me, and every single person who will fly with me in the future. I sincerely want to say “Thank you” -Kris

How to make a basic gif (what I do anyway)

I use adobe photoshop cs5

So lets get started, make sure you have your ‘animations’ toolbar open like below (windows > animations)

go to file > import > video frames to layers like below

load your video file as shown below. Like this post if you watch running man! LOL (tip: use a short video that is mp4 format to make your gif)

once you clicked ‘load’ click on ‘selected range only’ and make sure you tick the ‘limit to 2 frames’ and ‘make frame animation’ as shown below (tip: it does not have to always be limit to 2 frames, if you want to include lots of movement or frames in your gif then increase the limit)

after you have done this, then hold down the ‘shift’ key while selecting the part that you want for your gif (tip: at first, this was tricky for me. patience! if there’s too many frames or your frames won’t load after you click ok, you need to restart until you get around 10-20ish frames for normal sized gifs!)

once you click ok, your screen will be something like below. (you can press play, and you’ll start to see your gif except at a very fast speed)

to fix the speed, right click on any frame and click on whatever speed you want, as for my example gif I had to choose ‘other’ to make the speed of my gif accurate as shown below (tip: play around with this until you find the right speed for your gif)

If you choose ‘other’ to adjust the speed of your gif this ‘set frame delay’ will appear. You can set your speed in the box (tip: this is practical for speeds lower than 0.1 seconds, in this case I’ve done 0.08 seconds)

once you are happy about the speed of your gif, go to file > save for web and devices as shown below (tip: you can edit your gif however you like before this step but for beginners then just save and then when your pro you can edit your gifs to produce gifs with effects, captions, really cool gifs ect.)

edit your gif settings like shown below (an important factor is always make sure that your gif is below 1MB, you can check this by looking at the bottom left corner of the settings box directly under the preview gif AND making sure the image size is correct to make it fit when you upload it on tumblr) as shown below

(tip: for one normal sized gif, it should be 500 px wide, and the height will adjust to that because it’s proportional. For smaller gifs it should be 245 px wide)

Upload it on tumblr like how you upload a photo and your finished!

Please leave a message in my ask box if this tutorial was helpful! Goodluck! (sorry for the delay too)

(my crappy example was 245px wide. Remember to download/use higher quality videos!)

Do you guys want a tutorial on how to make gifs?

I was looking in my askbox today and there were many requests from yonks ago though
